Normally, MEA also named membrane electrode assembly, it mainly consists of proton exchange membrane (PEM), cathode catalytic layer, and anode catalytic layer. The main function of proton exchange   membranes is to achieve rapid proton conduction, while blocking the permeation of hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen between the anode and cathode.   The catalytic layer provides a three-phase material transport interface and an electrochemical reaction site, enabling the reaction to proceed fast.

5-Layer MEA: 5-LayerMembrane electrode assembly is widely used in fuel cell vehicles and portable power systems due to its balance between performance and cost-effectiveness. It consists of an anode, a cathode, and two ion exchange membranes that effectively conduct protons and diffuse gases for a wide range of applications.

7-Layer MEA: 7-Layer membrane electrode assembly adds catalyst and membrane layers to enhance performance and durability for applications with high power and long life requirements, such as heavy transportation and stationary power generation. It excels in high current density and low degradation rates.

3-layer MEA: 3-layer membrane electrode assembly is primarily used in cost-reducing applications, and although it does not perform as well as 5- and 7-layer, it is still effective in low-power, small devices and is suitable for weight- and cost-sensitive scenarios.
